Vasthi Treatment- Importance in Ayurveda

Vasthi (also spelled Vasti or Vasti Karma) is an important treatment in Ayurveda, a traditional Indian system of medicine. The treatment involves the introduction of medicated oils, herbal decoctions, or other substances into the rectum, bladder, or uterus through a specially designed nozzle. The treatment is used to cleanse and purify the body, balance the doshas (the three fundamental energies in Ayurveda), and treat a wide range of ailments.

Vasthi is considered an important treatment in Ayurveda for several reasons. Firstly, it is believed that the treatment can help to remove toxins from the body, thus promoting overall health and well-being. Secondly, Vasthi is thought to help balance the doshas, which are believed to be the fundamental energies that govern the functioning of the body. Thirdly, Vasthi is considered to be a powerful treatment for a wide range of ailments, including constipation, diarrhea, back pain, sciatica, and many other conditions.

It is also used for healing the disorders of urinary tract, Prostate, piles, and skin problems, and in some cases, it is also used for the management of infertility and rejuvenation.

Types of Vasti

  1. Anuvasana Vasthi: This treatment involves the introduction of medicated oil into the rectum. It is used to lubricate and nourish the colon, as well as to treat conditions such as constipation, diarrhea, and hemorrhoids.
  2. Kashaya Vasti: This is a vasti technique in which heat is delivered to a specific portion of the body. It is accomplished by storing heated and medicinal oils. In the damaged region, a dam made of herbal dough is constructed, and oil is poured. The oil is left there to revitalise the body by reducing pain, edoema, and tension. This therapy can also help with acute and chronic back pain, lumbar spondylosis, sciatica, osteoporosis, and disc prolapse. Sciatica pain is eased, as is discomfort from a prolapsed intervertebral disc. The nerves are stimulated, which relieves pain and numbness. Rheumatoid arthritis, lumbosacral strain, and disc bulging are also treated with this vasti.
  3. Uttara Vasthi: This treatment involves the introduction of medicated oil or decoction into the bladder or uterus. It is used to treat conditions such as urinary tract infections, cystitis, and infertility.
